How To Avoid Interview Mistakes

Interviews can be very unnerving, most especially if it is your first time and you are not well prepared. However, like anything else in life, with a lot of practice you will become perfect.

Here are some mistakes you must avoid in a job interview:
• Never come late to an interview. If you come late to an interview, it will give the impression that you are likely to becoming to work late when hired. If it is beyond your control to come late to the interview, give your interviewer a call and state the reason why you have to come late.
• Do not come to the interview in untidy outfit. No matter the nature of the job, there is no reason why you should come to an interview in wrinkled shirt and torn jeans. If it is an office job, wear business clothes, a suit or pair of black trousers with ironed shirt. Even if it is in a shop, wear something decent
• Do not lie about your qualification, experience and skills. In this era of information technology, it is quite easy to verify if you have actually worked in any company, attended any University or acquire any skills. If for any reason you finally get the job in spite of the lie, you may not be able to work there for long because of the demand of the position. Stick to the qualifications you can defend.
• Do not give confidential information about your previous employer. This is the easy way for the interviewer to know if you will be talking about their confidential business to others when hired.
• Do not tell your interviewer that you have no idea how to improve yourself. No matter how confident and competent you might feel, there is always room for improvement. If you think you know it all, it is not all there is to know.
• Do not be rude to the receptionist. Always remember that the receptionist could be your colleague when hired. Quite often the interviewer will asks the receptionist how the applicant acted. So never look down on the receptionist.
• Do not come to the interview with your mobile handset turned on. It could be a distraction to have your phone ringing when you are trying to present yourself as a good candidate for the job. Most interviewer consider such attitude rude, especially when it rings twice during the interview. It could cost you the job.
• Do not attend interview with negative attitude. If you attend the interview with the thought that you might not get the job, you will not. Have a positive attitude, be confident and go for the job. You will get what you really ask for. "As a man thinketh so he is."
